All British Berkefeld® bottles work in the same way, but there are several sizes: 1 litre, 6 litres, 8.5 litres and 12 litres. There are a number of criteria for choosing the right size, which we explain here.

Principle of use

The principle behind using a gravity system is that you don't have to refill it too many times a day, but you should refill it at least every 3 days so that the filtered water doesn't last too long. Deprived of its chlorine, filtered water does not keep as well as chlorinated water.

Based on this principle, you need to estimate your daily consumption and choose a model whose volume corresponds roughly to this quantity of water. Don't just think about your drinking water. You should use your purified water to prepare hot drinks (tea, coffee, herbal teas, etc.), to cook food in water (pasta, rice, starchy foods, etc.), and why not, for the water you give to your pets.

Once this volume has been estimated, either it corresponds to one of the models on offer, and that's fine, or you're in one of two situations:

- You need less than the smallest of the models: that's not a problem. Remember that you can keep your filtered water for 3 days. So you'll certainly have time to use it up before those 3 days are up. Choose the smallest model.

- You'll need more than the biggest model: that's OK too, there's nothing to stop you filling it a second or even third time during the day. Filtration time is around 1.5 litres/hour, so you'll have a reserve of filtered water available fairly quickly.

Otherwise, choose the model with the volume closest to your needs.

Don't forget that your needs are often underestimated and that water can be consumed for 3 days and that you can also fill your system several times a day. So there will always be a model to suit your needs. If you still have any doubts, don't hesitate to contact our customer service team, who will be delighted to advise you and help you make the right choice.
